To encourage players not to shy away from the many invigorating adventures to be had in The Oculus, we have applied a change to enhance the rewards players are provided when selected for this dungeon via the Random Heroic option in the Dungeon Finder. Once Ley-Guardian Eregos is defeated, one loot bag per character will be provided in his chest in addition to the current rewards. Each loot bag will offer players rare gems, two additional Emblems of Triumph, and a chance of being rewarded the Reins of the Blue Drake. These fine treasures could be yours should you honor your fellow party members by besting the challenges contained within The Oculus! Keep in mind, however, that these extra loot bags will only be awarded to each party member if Oculus is selected by the Dungeon Finder when players choose the Random Heroic option.
In light of this change, the Reins of the Azure Drake will now have a chance of dropping in both 10- and 25-player versions of The Eye of Eternity.
This change is being made via a hotfix. If it’s not yet live, it should be by the conclusion of the morning’s maintenance. Sorry for any confusion on my part.

God, i never got why people hated Oculus. Probably the easiest heroic in the game, especially now with the new Icecrown ones. Yet people still hate it? Sure the drake can be a little confusing, but its just as easy as the Argent Tournament dailies and the 5man. Hell, keep “nerfing” (buffing) Oculus, and i’ll be a happy customer. Just can’t wait to get my new drake….

Final boss, use 2 green, 2 bronze, one red dragon, and when the boss goes immune, get away from him…
the healer always bites it, with 2 greens, you have a back up… they dont do bad dps either

This used to be a hard instance, then they nerfed the hell out of it. The day after 3.3 I queued for a random and the PuG finsihed the heroic in under 20 minutes. It was the fastest and easiest run I’ve ever done of any instance since the patch… except for that one 15 minute run of Heroic UK that I got, but that was just because we were so overgeared it wasn’t even funny.

Sure, there was a time when WotlK was new and Occ was the most intimidating instance of them all, but that was over a year ago now. Occ has undergone so many nerfings that it is nothing like it’s original incarnation.
Lately my experiences with tanking and healing Occ have been smooth, with everyone fulfilling their role as required. The 20-minute-finish achievement is almost second-nature to a pug run now, with most people in 232 or 245 gear. I’ve only had a few holdups where people fought over which drake to pilot, but that didn’t last long.
In light of the new random-LFG, I think we may yet see a turnaround of opinion on Occ, especially now that we get an EXTRA 2 emblems, some gems, and a possible mount upon completing.

One thing I’ve noticed is that people kick and scream when there is change, and when Occulus was an instance worth doing while leveling, and an instance worth getting badges from when doing heroic dailies, people seemed to hate it only because the general population told them it was hated. The drakes confused people, the bosses were a little harder, the final fight is based on new knowledge on how to fight on a drake rather than using your character’s abilities, and all people remember are the numerous wipes. Once you dig your heels in, learn the fights, watch a video on how a clean run is accomplished, and dedicate to running it with four other people who can invest the time in doing it right without being impatient and leaving group – you will find Occulus to be very gratifying. Adding the new perks to entice people to run it through is maybe what they needed, but once they have what they want – sadly they may never want to run it again. The onus is on the player to learn it, get good at it, and be confident that it really can be just as easy as the other instances, and done in a short time. If you want to keep running Nexus and Utgarde Keep forever, your game will get pretty boring. Step up and learn more to this game and don’t be afraid. Repair bills will happen, but so be it – that’s the cost of learning something new and practicing it, and above all, this is why we play World of Warcraft isn’t it?

I wanted to do this dungeon for a while before I finally got the chance. I had a good team, no-one died and we all really enjoyed it (although it was quite hilarious hearing the melodramatic “Noo..” over vent when the loading screen came up). I always enjoy tanking this one.
I’ve never seen a team wipe more than once in this dungeon – and never on the drakes.
It’s nice that Blizz have given an extra incentive to do this dungeon, but it’s a shame that they felt they had to.

I have a Tank/DPS DK and a Heals/DPS priest. I don’t mind Occ at all- IF I’m DPS.
PUGing Occ as a tank or healer is a royal pains and I refuse to do it. I could care less how many times I get told, once I get it on random, “oh its easy”. Because its ALWAYS the DPS that says it.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I’ve had a repair bill. And its always the same thing. (Tank) I say ‘LoS’ and they hit stuff and prevent it from getting in my AoE range anyway. I run in and they sic their pets on a mob that I was trying to Strangulate into range. They don’t aim for the focus target. I have a gear score over 2700 and have had zero problems holding mobs in any other WoLK instance, any of the ICC, or any raid. Its almost like there is an “INSTANT IDIOT” button that the DPS push the second they hit Occ. (Heal) same as above, I can heal everyone through it even though DPS are pulling all the time- but its an unnecessary pain.
I’ll run it with the guild anytime- never had problems with people I know. But PUGging it is a tank or healer’s nightmare. A 25-50g repair bill for an instance with no real loot is NOT worth it. I’d rather bail and rerole, then blow through that instance in under 20 minutes. As opposed to spending an hour trying to explain in a PUG how not to pull out of my AoE range- and spending time explaining the last boss.

@Ancient One: You just explained why it is a pain. Nobody tries to follow any strategy, CC, etc. anymore. They just want to do everything on auto-pilot/spam their main rotation. This was the only original WotLK dungeon to require any brain cells (maybe after it was no longer necessary to run out on Loken). It is hard to pug and get a full group of people with a brain.

i’m going to have to go with rhanoo on this one, 9 times out of 10 when i get a group even WITH the improvements we end up dieing at LEAST 2 or 3 times on last boss (my personal record with a guild group that due to being my guild i could’nt leave being 45 wipes before last occ nurf) bacuse people screw around a tad to much, sadly this is why what COULD with a good group be a fun fast easy instance will quickly turn into a nightmare a headache and leaves most people wanting to cannibalize a small village of gnomes, and hence why most people run screaming when this one pops up.
I don’t know about you guys but in almost full 232′s and a few 245′s this place gets expensive fast.
