New raid dungeon: The Ruby Sanctum
Written by Wildchild.

As we prepare for the public testing phase of minor content patch 3.3.3, some players might come across information regarding upcoming content that isn’t yet available. To avoid any confusion, we’d like to tell you about an exciting new raid dungeon we are working on for content patch 3.3.5.

The Ruby Sanctum

A powerful war party of the Black Dragonflight, led by the fearsome Twilight dragon, Halion, have launched an assault upon the Ruby Sanctum beneath Wyrmrest Temple. By destroying the sanctum, the Black Dragonflight look to crush those that would stand in the way of their master’s reemergence into Azeroth and to ultimately shatter the Wyrmrest Accord – the sacred bond that unites the dragonflights.

The battle that is to come will surely deal a crippling blow to the Red Dragonflight, however, it is up to you to stop this unprecedented offensive and defend the Ruby Sanctum. First you must face the assault of Halion’s servants, Saviana Ragefire, Baltharus the Warborn, and General Zarithrian, before squaring off against Halion the Twilight Destroyer, a new and deadly force in this realm.

The Ruby Sanctum will feature 10- and 25-player content, Heroic difficulties and all-new rewards! Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to its release.

Second of five. I wonder which one they’re going to release next. Whichever it is, I can’t wait for more information on them.

Even if the drops are limited and not above ICC (like Onyxia and ToC were roughly similar), this is still a sweet way to keep us raiders preocupied until Cataclysm is ready. There being 5 raid portals under wyrmrest alone means they have lots of time to work on cataclysm before we turn into a bored and unruly mob!

Lets just hope that it’s more challenging than the latest VoA boss. If we’re gonna be getting ICC type gear and trinkets I’d rather not have a pinata instance boss again.

Lets see the Emerald Sanctum etc being formed next – and they should make a decent link into Oculus and EoE in one of the instances they have spare under the temple; maybe even some more dragon mounted sections.

Either way – more big flappy things to kill :)

Anyone know if this will be similar to OS? It would be nice if there were some different structure to a Dragon-based raid…

3 hours to queue for a raid? Guild had to wait? What? That comment made no sense to me. Guild runs should be scheduled, and all raiders should show on time prepared. Queuing for pugs shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes unless server pop is extremely low. Anyway … this sounds like it will be a pretty cool raid. I’d like to see gear from it at least on an ICC level, but we’ll see …

What Cookie was talking about was being able to enter instances. I play on Daggerspine and there are several times a week it can take 10 minutes to over an hour before anyone can enter instances. Week before last our guild didn’t even do ICC at all because of server issues not allowing us to enter instances during our scheduled raid times.

New instance will be great, and I’ll be looking forward to it.
I just hope that the instance servers will be increased because it is disheartening to try and raid when they are all full.

    @Inee

Toravon was a difficuly boss until they applied the nerf to decrease the orbs as well as the damage and range they hit. Anyone who did Voa25 before that nerf will attest to the difficulty of the raid prior.

Aside from that bring on the Dragon Dream

Sounds pretty cool. I just wish that Blizzard would spend as much time and energy on fixing the existing content as they do on creating new content — in particular, the increasing number of broken quests.

Anyone noticed the “short raid” incidence? One can get heroic gear to icc gear only through single-boss instances. OS on par with naxx, EoE with ulduar, Ony with ToC and now RS with icc. That’s perfect for us casual raiders. Not to mention: all of them are dragon-themed, just like the new patch. Hint on the future of raiding? Hope that there are at least plenty of such raids coming with Cata & patches.

And before anyone starts pouting about “easy gearing” I’ll remind you of the fact long raids are both released earlier and are more rewarding.

i’m going to go with Exesum on this one long raids are fun, have cool gear and other items that make it worth going and have all sorts of nifty achievements and you in most cases need a brain and a lot of time to finish, short raids on the other paw are good for people who dont have the time to do long raids or there work/school/life/parenting schedule is so hectic they rarely can go with the guild or some such nonsense so they can get a shot at nice gear, and are better for people with the attention span of a goldfish.

all in all i think they about even out ^^ the big raids come out 1st so the dedicated raiding guilds can go in and get there gear get to face roll a few bosses and get some glory, then the smaller raids with equivalent gear come out so people can at least see SOME end game content and get nice gear even if they never get to face-roll the litch king, also they won’t feel left out like in vanilla and BC where only 1-6% of the game population got to see the “big” bosses much less down them.

Interesting, to be honest I’ve have been upset with the way raiding has become. I mean the fact that people can pug end game raids just ruins the fun and the challenge so I’m hoping Cataclysm and the remaining Wyrmrest raids change that.
