I started playing durring BC, but its my understanding that Vanilla WoW was pretty straight forward about gear stats. Then Burning Crusade hit and many of the "hidden" mechanics became stackable gear stats, which greatly complicated gear selection and thus weeded out players who didn't understand the game from those that read it like a book. So now they are going retro, and returning to simple gear selection but with modern twists to keep it interesting for old-schoolers. /sad panda However, I think the Mastery system is a sweet idea; as well as the possibility of having 5 more talent points with fewer "mandatory" places to put them.
