We’ve just released a new preview of our upcoming Real ID feature, (http://www.battle.net/realid/) a new, optional way to connect with your friends on the revamped Battle.net. When you and a friend agree to become Real ID friends, you’ll have access to a number of options designed to enrich your social gaming experience, including cross-game chat, broadcast messages, the ability to keep in contact with your friends without having to keep track of their different characters across realms or across games, and much more. Check out our new Real ID page here. http://www.battle.net/realid/

@ Tantalys:
I believe the only comparison they were making to Facebook was how the RealID friend add will work. You will have to send them a request and they will approve/deny that request so that people can choose who can and cannot chat with their account.

I wonder it was not exactly clear. With the realID will there also be a Myspace/Facebook style site to log into outside of WoW to possibly search old friends that people may have lost touch with? Will it also have a search funtion for people into the same interests? It could also have groups on it like Facebook groups so guilds can make a page that all people can search. This has amazing marketing possibilities. You can have adds on the site with pay per click. It could also be a great place to commercialize new blizzard merchandise. with the over 11 million people signed up i smell more money. Great idea on this one blizzard if my questions have the answer of yes, hahahaha.

guess that featured isn’t designed to overwatch your guild-members activity on their alts…

The real advantage is when your guildies and endgame raiders are alt hopping… use it like officer chat only without every alt/player haveing officer status.
And yes, I have friends that currently play on different realms. My own toons span 3 realms, but thats soon to change (My Draenei Warrior will become a Bloodelf Warrior soon 8P )
Hot debate. What do you think?

Wow What they really need to do is put in a Ghost feature so you can be on without anyone seeing your from there friends or guild list for when you just want to do your own thing

This seems like such a good feature because i got friends who play on other realms but i dont want to make a whole new character just to chat with them
